Healthpoint Pharmacy has been chosen by the NHS Wessex Area team as one
of the locations who will be providing free NHS flu vaccinations through
pharmacies for the first time this year. The scheme has been introduced
to offer a convenient location to the groups of individuals whose NHS
flu vaccination uptake has been traditionally low.
Pharmacist Phil Allen has been offering a private flu vaccination
service since 2009 and said, "The scheme has been introduced to help
reach those groups of patients who may not be able to get to their GP
for their flu vaccination due to work commitments or timing of the flu
clinics at their GP's. Pharmacies are ideally placed to help as many,
like ours, have been offering a private service for several years and
our patients appreciate that the pharmacist can offer the service at
times that suit them and can even get vaccinated without an appointment.
The service is open to pregnant ladies and those aged from 16-64 who
have certain chronic medical conditions for whom contracting the flu
could cause serious and potentially life threatening complications."
The service is running from 1st September 2014 to 28th February 2015,
subject to vaccine availability. Anyone wishing to book an appointment
or would like to know more can call into the pharmacy or phone 01202
429819.
